a reading group in london on lacan’s seminar 7 – the ethics of psychoanalysis.
The idea for the Lacan Reading Group stems from an initial collaboration between Richard Dumbrill (Iconea Director), Julia Evans (Lacanian Analyst and a member of the European Psychoanalytical Federation), and Bruno de Florence (musicologist and Iconea Deputy-Director). ‘Given all that is implied by the phrase, the ethics of psychoanalysis will allow me, far more than anything else, to test the categories that I believe enable me to give you through my teaching the most suitable instruments for understanding what is new both in Freud’s work and in the experience of psychoanalysis that derives from it.’ J. Lacan.
We use the 1992 English translation by Dennis Porter: The Ethics of Psychoanalysis – 1959-1960 – The seminar of Jacques Lacan, Book VII, Tavistock/Routledge, 1992.
